ANKARA'NIN
SOKAKLARINDA

From Kızılay to Kocatepe, a song of midnight avenues. The story begins the moment the needle drops.

BIOGRAPHY

About
Batu Akdeniz on stage — black-and-white portrait

Born in Ankara, Batu Akdeniz has emerged as one of the most-streamed new-generation rock artists of the 2020s. He took his first steps in music at a very young age: in 1998, before he could even read or write, he performed at the CSO Hall as the youngest soloist of the Ankara Polyphonic Music Society Choir and was featured in the national press. Turning to the guitar in his high-school years, from the age of 18 his classic-rock and hard-rock covers on YouTube reached millions of views and an international audience. His takes on Guns N' Roses, Scorpions and Bon Jovi led to collaborations with names like Karl Golden and Niko Slash — and, in 2016, to sharing a stage in Paris.

In 2016 he founded Heavy Sky, a hard-rock project built entirely on his own compositions, and released the album Dreamer, which aired on radio in many countries, notably Brazil and the UK. In a documentary they filmed together, legendary guitarist Asım Can Gündüz voiced his support for the artist openly.

Focusing on a Turkish solo career from 2019 onward, Batu Akdeniz has since surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify, carrying his music from Ankara to London's Hammersmith and from Istanbul to Muscle Shoals, the birthplace of American rock. Widely said to be even more powerful live than on record, on stage he weaves iconic classic-rock songs into his own repertoire. In 2024 he recorded a duet, “The Reason,” with Simon Kirke — the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame drummer of Bad Company — becoming one of only two Turkish musicians to release an official duet with a Hall of Fame artist.

That same year, England's world-renowned Starsailor invited him on stage at their Zorlu PSM concert, and together they sang “Good Souls” before thousands. Akdeniz has opened for international names such as Glenn Hughes, The White Buffalo and Starsailor on major stages including Zorlu PSM and KüçükÇiftlik Park, and shared a stage in the US with Grammy-winning Gary Nichols. Entering the seventh year of his solo career, he has reached wide audiences with songs like Eksik (35M), Yanlış Biriyle Doğru Hikâye (15M) and Artık Bi' Manyağın Var (9.5M), and has recorded duets with Koray Candemir, Pamela, Paptircem and Çağrı Sinci. He is also working on an official covers album slated for 2026, for which he has recorded his rendition of Scorpions' “Send Me An Angel.”

I worked with a phenomenal vocalist — his name is Batu Akdeniz, and I'm sure he's headed for great things.
